Local cheerleader named to state All-Star Cheer Team

Staff Writer

Serrano High School senior Madori Griffin is flying higher than normal.

A captain with the Desert Diamonds All Star Cheer team in Hesperia, Griffin was one of five girls named to the California All State All-Star Cheer Team, based on her academic achievement, athleticism and community involvement.

Griffin received the honor at the Cheer Pros cheerleading competition at Long Beach in January. The Victorville resident has been cheerleading for six years.

“I just love being around all the girls,” she said. “It’s fun and pushes you to accomplish things you never thought you could do.”

Desert Diamonds All Star Cheer offers cheerleading, tumbling, free-running and parkour classes. After previously renting space from Acrobrats, this is the team’s first year in its own space on Poplar Street.

Griffin hopes to go to a college with a good cheerleading program, otherwise, she’ll continue on with the Desert Diamonds another year. She plans on majoring in veterinary science and ultimately becoming a veterinarian.

“She’s one of our captains,” said Patrick Monjaraz, owner of Desert Diamonds All Star Cheer in Hesperia. “She’s a really good leader and student.”

“Performing is the best part of it,” Griffin said.
