City warns of winter storm this week
Two to four inches of snowfall expected starting Tuesday afternoon
Even as blizzard conditions batter the East Coast, city officials are warning that Hesperians might have to be breaking out snow shovels themselves this week.
"The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning beginning Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon, during which time snow levels may drop down to 2,000 feet," the city warned in an automated Connect CTY telephone call sent out Monday around 6 p.m.
Hesperia is located at approximately 3,186 feet above sea level.
"Due to the expected freezing temperatures," the automated message continued, "We suggest that you check that all exterior plumbing fixtures are insulated or otherwise protected from the freezing temperature and that pet owner take extra precautions, including bringing pets indoors if possible.
"Should we receive the anticipated 2-4 inches of snowfall, please avoid driving in order to keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles. This extreme weather may impact the accessibility of the Cajon Pass, and the Cal Trans District 8 Web site may be monitored for current updates."
The Caltrans District 8 Web site is located at http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist8/

| Wow staff! You really are correct! We got Oh so much snow and the roads are so bad that they called and cancelled school! NOT! I swear! Get a life. If you really hate teaching that much, then quit. Don't try to start rumors on here in hopes your kids don't show up and you don't have to do what WE PAY YOU FOR! |

| I really hope the school district is communicating with the city this time.
There have been a few times when schools were open and the weather and road conditions were horrible and I had a hard time picking my kids up from school because roads were flooded, closed and or barricaded. I once asked a road worker who was putting up barricades for the best alternate route and he advised me of a route I had already tried with no success. I understand that if a road is not safe then it needs to be closed but there has to be a way to get to our children. In other words, if there is a good idea that roads will be seriously affected then school should be closed! |
