Hesperia Relay for Life is one month away
With one month to go before the Hesperia Relay For Life event at Hesperia Civic Plaza Park, the organizing committee is putting finishing touches on the schedule and looking for additional volunteers.
Most importantly, committee chairwoman Tracy Moyer and volunteer coordinator Danielle Chrisinger are inviting all cancer survivors to join the event’s Survivors’ Lap of Hope that officially starts the annual relay. The lap is always powerful and emotionally moving, according to Moyer and Chrisinger.
Each opening ceremony participant will receive a T-shirt and a special memento.
Another dramatic portion of each event is the Luminaria, which takes place through the night. Bags are filled with sand and a small candle. The outside of each bag is personalized to recognize people who have battled cancer. Survivors and those who have lost their battle to cancer are honored and remembered. Caregivers also will be recognized for their devotion to loved ones.
The survivor breakfast begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 10. The opening ceremony will be at 10 a.m. with the cancer survivors’ lap of home will follow at 10:30 a.m. The luminaria begins at 9 p.m.
Survivor and Luminaria forms are available. Donations of $10 or more are requested for the Luminaria.
For more information, call Danielle Chrisinger at 760-473-0664 or log onto www.RelayForLife.org/hesperiaca.

| April 10th, 2010, at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, Madison “Maddy” Marzano, will be celebrating her 10 years of being Cancer FREE! One of Maddy’s goals for this year is to receive and display Celebration cards at the Relay Event, but she also has another goal which is to raise 10k for 10 Years! Maddy would like to present the American Cancer Society with a thousand dollars for each year that she has remained cancer free.
Maddy is a thoughtful and inspiring young girl who has shared so much hope with others. Supported by her family, Maddy has been very active in the community, as well as the local hospital and in events that share the HOPEful side of cancer with other patients and their families.
It would mean the world to Maddy’s family to see the smile on her face when she is able to present this donation, a part of Maddy’s efforts to share HOPE and put smiles on the faces of others. Her booth at the Relay will be lined with all her cards received as she walks in the upcoming 24 hour event.
If you would like to help, please send Celebration cards and if possible a donation. Any checks should be made out to the American Cancer Society and are tax deductible.
