Hesperia Christian cancels football season

HESPERIA • Hesperia Christian athletic director Bill Hague announced on Wednesday that the school has canceled its upcoming varsity football season due to lack of players.

In a prepared statement Hague wrote, “While our enrollment is holding steady, we had a large number of football players who graduated last year. We are disappointed to miss out on the opportunities for character building and fun under the lights on Friday nights.

However, we are dedicated to run a quality football program and we are encouraged by our future athletes.”

The team had only eight players on its roster. The entire starting lineup from last year’s team, which reached the playoffs, graduated according to Hague.

Hague did say he expects the school to field a team in 2013.
