Disabled man missing in Hesperia
HESPERIA • A 48-year-old man with the mental capacity of an 8- to 10-year old wandered away from his Hesperia home two days ago, with family, sheriff's officials and volunteers searching the area for him.
Samuel Jones left from 9161 Ravenswood Ave. some time after 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to a release from San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials. The search was still on as of 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Jones is diabetic, bi-polar and schizophrenic, sheriff’s officials said, and he’s currently on several medications. He frequents local restaurants but is known to get lost easily.
Authorities used a helicopter to search for Jones on Wednesday, according to family, and volunteers started going door-to-door in the neighborhood Thursday passing out fliers.
The man is described as 5 foot, 8 inches tall and weighing 140 to 170 pounds. He has short blond hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes.
If anyone sees Jones, they’re encouraged to detain him and notify authorities by calling sheriff’s dispatch at (760) 245-4211 or the Hesperia station at (760) 947-1500.
