Hesperia mom on 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?'

HESPERIA • A homemaker from Hesperia will get a shot at winning $1 million, as she appears Wednesday and Thursday on the game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”

Marjorie Pour-Ghasemi said if she wins, she plans to splurge with some online shopping and help her husband, Ghasem, retire.

Ghasem went to New York City with his wife and sat in the audience as her on-air companion for the show, while host Meredith Vieira posed questions on a range of topics. Contestants bank money based on answering the questions correctly, with questions now randomized in terms of difficulty and value.

Marjorie, 53, and her husband have two children: Navid Jason, 24, and Javid Nathan, 21. Ghasem is from Iran and Marjorie is from Kentucky, so she said her sons ended up with the only Persian names she could pronounce with her thick Kentucky accent.

Marjorie jokes that her job is to be a “personal assistant” to her two adult boys. She moved out to Hesperia from Kentucky, where she lived for most of her life, to be closer to her sons.

The Hesperia mom will appear on the episodes airing at 10 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday on KTLA Channel 5.
