Electrical fire destroys Hesperia trailer
HESPERIA • Quick work from the fire department stopped the spread of an electrical fire that engulfed a travel trailer in Hesperia.
At 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, San Bernardino County Fire crews responded to a home in the 10000 block of 1st Street in Hesperia, according to a San Bernardino County Fire Department press release.
The crews found a 20-foot travel trailer engulfed in flames in the backyard of the residence, and two engine companies worked together to extinguish the fire in just six minutes, according to the release.
The fire did not spread beyond the trailer. Because the flames were so large, it was initially believed that the home itself was on fire. However, fire crews discovered that the fire was limited to the unoccupied trailer and were able to extinguish the flames.
The fire was caused by an electrical problem and damage is estimated at $20,000, according to the release.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department reminds the public that, in order to avoid fires, extension cords should not be used as permanent power sources and plugs should not be overloaded with multiple extension cords.
