Kyle Adams is awarded Eagle Scout award

In a recent Court of Honor, Kyle Adams, son of Mark and Darla Adams of Hesperia, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout - the highest advancement rank in Scouting. Kyle belongs to Troop 459, whose charter organization is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Arrowhead Ward.

Kyle is also a member of Sultana High School's graduating class of 2008.

To earn the Eagle Scout rank, Kyle fulfilled requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. He had to demonstrate proficiency in a number of specific skills in these areas to advance through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and ultimately to the rank of Eagle. Kyle's father, brother, and five of his uncles are also Eagle Scouts.

When asked if he had a favorite activity throughout his years of Scouting, Kyle answered, "Our High Sierra trip to Thousand Island Lake. We caught lots of fish. As soon as you threw out your line, you caught a fish."

Kyle earned 22 merit badges on his way to becoming an Eagle; his favorite was Shotgun Shooting. One requirement was that he hit at least 25 of 50 clay pigeons, which he did easily.

He said the most difficult merit badge to earn was Citizenship in the Nation. "There was a lot of memorization, which was hard. I actually had to do it twice, because I messed up the first time," he said.

One of the final requirements to attain the Eagle Rank is the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project. This requirement - the culmination of Kyle's leadership training - gave him the opportunity to demonstrate leadership of others while performing a project for the benefit of his community.

Kyle acquired funds for his Eagle Project by recycling used aluminum window frames. He then purchased fabric in the L.A. Garment District and supervised a group of about 25 people who cut and tied the fabric into 60 blankets. The blankets were given to the fire department to be given to fire victims who have lost everything.

Kyle said he felt a deep sense of accomplishment in attaining the Eagle rank. "It is something my dad and brother have done," he said, "and I've always wanted to do it. I knew it was an honorable rank, and I wanted to achieve it too."

Kyle's future plans include serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, college, and a career in radiology.
