Rodeo show charging into Inland Empire
DEVORE • Residents are invited to saddle up for a weekend of Western-style family fun at the upcoming 13th Annual PRCA Sheriff's Rodeo at the Glen Helen Regional Park in Devore.
The event will showcase the talent and skills of some of the nation’s top cowboys riding for the opportunity to compete at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo this December in Las Vegas, according to Floyd Tidwell of Oak Hills, the rodeo’s Arena Events Coordinator.
Adding to the excitement of the rodeo, the event will also feature a menu of family entertainment that will include a mechanical bull, pony rides, bounce house, petting zoo and rock wall. A dance will follow immediately after the rodeo events.
Rodeo fans won’t be the only ones to benefit from all the fun. Sponsored by donations from various local businesses and organizations throughout the county, proceeds from the event’s turnout will go to support such notable causes as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Challenged Children’s Rodeo, the 4H Club of San Bernardino, the Yucaipa Equestrian Center and the County Sheriff’s Reserves and Volunteers.
Attendees of the event are encouraged to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, as a special donation will be made to Breast Cancer Research at Loma Linda University Medical Center.
The rodeo will be represented by two Inland Empire pageant queens, the 2012 Miss San Bernardino Sheriff’s Rodeo Queen, Caitlin Eberhardt, and the 2012 Junior Miss San Bernardino Sheriff’s Rodeo Queen, Sabrina Snowball. The women travel across California, as well as Arizona and Nevada, representing the sport and the “Western way of life,” according to Cindy Roswell, one of the event’s volunteer coordinators.
The event will be held from Sept. 28 through Sept. 30. Gates will open at 4 p.m. Sept. 28 and Sept. 29, with the rodeo beginning at 8 p.m. both evenings. Gates open at 1 p.m. Sept. 30, with that evening’s rodeo beginning at 5 p.m.
Tickets for events the first two days are $15 each, and tickets for the Sept. 30 show may be purchased at a discount of two for one. Tickets may be purchased online at sheriffsrodeo.org or via telephone at (909) 473-0699.
