School district unveils Mission Crest Elementary plans
(This story originally appeared in the Hesperia Star Tuesday, July 18, 2006)
A new elementary school will open in August 2007, on the corner of Muscatel Street and Independence Avenue.
Mission Crest Elementary School is designed to “comfortably hold 900 students,” according to Deb Baker, spokeswoman for the Hesperia Unified School District. Much like Cedar Middle School, which is scheduled to open at the same time, Mission Crest will be built with portable classroom components, although as a cost-saving measure rather than with an eye towards rearranging the campus later on.
The new school will border the under-construction Mailbu Park. The park is a joint project by the HUSD and the Hesperia Recreation and Park District. Also bordering the park will be Cedar Middle School, which is also expected to open in August 2007. Both schools will utilize the park, once opened.
