Communications tower goes up

A large public communications tower, which will help safety personnel during emergencies, will soon rise near Hesperia Civc Plaza.

The 175-foot tower is part of the state-of-the-art operations center which will include sheriff/coroner/public administrator/county fire and 911 call and dispatch centers.

Construction of the center, a joint venture between the city of Hesperia and San Bernardino County, will include all the technology amenities designed to the latest essential facilities standards.

The tower, which will be erected by crane on Saturday and Sunday, will sit next to the Jerry Lewis High Desert Government Center on the corner of

Seventh Avenue and Smoketree Street, according to Dave Burkett, project construction manager for the city.

Rachel Molina, public information officer with the city, said the tower will ensure that first responder radio messages, computerized information and response instructions are fully communicated to and from public safety personnel during emergencies.

Intern Deloris Comford contributed to the story.
