Missing Hesperia man found in Victorville
VICTORVILLE • A 48-year-old man who had been missing from his Hesperia home was found in Victorville, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials.
Samuel Jones, who has the mental capacity of an 8- to 10-year-old wandered away from his home on Oct. 2. Authorities used a helicopter to search for Jones, while volunteers went door-to-door in the neighborhood passing out fliers.
At about 6 p.m. on Saturday, a facilitator from a Victorville church recognized Jones from an article in the Daily Press and contacted Sheriff’s dispatch. Deputies from the Victorville station responded and confirmed the man as Jones. Jones wasn’t injured and in good health.
Jones made his way to Victorville after leaving his home and became lost, according to a sheriff’s news release. His family is grateful for the support of the desert communities and the help they received from businesses in circulating missing person flyers, sheriff’s officials said.
