Color schemes?

Americans are being manipulated into lending themselves to too many trends

Special to the Star

It seems as though that the vast majority of Americans have slowly been manipulated, indoctrinated and maneuvered into a society that willingly lends itself to all types of movements and trends. It’s not enough that we Americans generously contribute to all kinds of worthwhile causes; for along with the giving, it seems as though some type of “color scheme” always has to be included within the manipulation format that encourages us to donate, even beyond the amount that we can really afford to give.

Think about it, over the years, the politically correct signature of displaying a colored ribbon, related to some kind of cause or movement, has become a regular feature bestowed on the rear ends of many our automobiles. Whether our support has been towards conquering cancer, or our troops overseas, our eagerness to display our concern and generosity towards needy causes and our patriotism of America can always be counted on the be supported by some type of color scheme or trendy theme. The latest, of course, being global warming.

To say the least, global warming has become an issue for almost everyone and since its conception and interpretation, the catchy phrase of the day, that everyone seems to passionately hold onto and can’t repeat enough times, is “going green.” Now, in a nutshell, how much of a contribution of green house gasses, mankind contributes to global warming and what it’s ultimate effect will have on our environment will be, is a debatable issue amongst most scientist and almost all Americans, so I’m really not going to express my personal opinion related to that portion of the issue. Where my real concern lays, is in the fact that how, as a society, we can be so easily swayed to act so impulsively towards causes, labeled with such simple terms or catchy themes, such as “green” or “going green.” Maybe it’s just me, or are there other independent free thinkers out there, who just get a little fed up, with trying to be led around and manipulated by such meaningless phrases or worthless sayings?

When it’s all said and done, perhaps it’s just my thwarted way of looking at things that’s the problem. I guess I’m just not a trendy type of guy, so if and when someone ever decides to encourage me to blindly follow clever clichés or trendy color schemes, please don’t ask me to take part in that parade. But, in all seriousness, I firmly believe that if and when the majority of our nation’s citizens willingly decide to remain uneducated and complacently act to sacrifice their individual freedoms, at the cost of being “politically correct,” then the future of our great nation is truly in peril. For if we continue to allow the strength of our individuality to be steadily eroded away, what we may someday wind up with, is a pristine planet inhabited by a stupid and ineffective society. Today, “going green” may be the popular quote of the day, but for me, whenever I hear those words muttered, all I’m able to see is red.
