Hesperia

Sign of the times?

That was disgusting what Lee Rogers did to the man holding the sign at Monday night’s board meeting. He has every legal right to hold a sign at a board meeting as long as he does not disrupt the meeting. And from what I saw, he was not.

My 13 year old son and I were reading the article in Hesperia Star that was titled “Board names McKinney interim superintendent” and he asked about the man holding the sign and said “didn’t he have the right to hold the sign to voice his opinion” and I said “Yes, as long as he does not disrupt the meeting.” My son then said, “She embarrassed him. Isn’t she also a teacher?” My heart fell as I noticed that his view a teachers had just fallen a bit. This all shows how importat it is to have people of good character from the school board on down, the students can look up to as their community heroes.

Also I’m not for taking legal action against the school district or board members in most cases, but in this case that line has been broken. This man was public humiliated by an elected school board member, in front of an audience of the community. If this were to happen to a teacher’s union member, you better bet that the sparks would be flying and legal action would be sought.

I would love to see the entire board room filled with signs with citizens wanting to exercise their right to free speech, but for Lee Rogers a school board member to try to stifle this right is wrong. I believe that Lee Rogers should apologize to the man holding the sign at the next public opportunity. This is also the same board that has illegally wanted to force the public comment time to 20 minutes per topic. Each member of the public has the right to speak for five minutes and not be limited by the number of speakers.

This action that was taken by Lee Rogers I believe just adds to the list of items the community is keeping track, to substantiate the reasons for recall. I say what many of others have said: “Resign or Be Recalled."

The problem was that is wasnt legal! The old board knew it looked funny but, they tried to do it anyway. The new boards first action was to stop this illegal contract and re bid it. And isnt it funny that the rebid was 900,000 dollars less.

Why the Hate, when it came to Mission Crest, the old board did not do nothing about it as you state. In fact, they did consult with legal counsel who inturn let them know they were ok legally. It is in Meeting minutes. They had concerns, consulted, and went with the best bid.

Why the hate, I am a little confused. The December minutes are the board meeting of the new board and the old board. Please help me understand what you are talking about.

Just as an FYI, Cost of Living Adjustments aka COLA are not automatic. Some school districts choose NOT to pass along COLA to its bargaining units. HUSD, typically, has passed along a percentage of COLA to its employees, after taking out related expenses such as Workers' Comp., etc. The union will tell you that COLA is automatic and therefore not really a raise, but that is not true. Historically, HUSD employees have gotten yearly increases in their pay through COLA and of course through their "step and column" increases based on education, experience, and just keeping breathing for another year. Everyone's pay goes up each year. I guess it's up to each of us to decide if this in fact defines a "raise".

HUSD teachers have received automatic cosdt of living raises every year in addition to step and column increases. Any additional raises have to come from somewhere since districts are funded by the state. These raises typically come from funds used for materials for our students. Where are your priorities. I would love to see teachers making more than Barry Bonds, but HUSD teachers should know that their salaries are very competetive with teachers from surrounding districts as the Daily Presds reported this past year.

Why the hate, you'll never see any vote on anything of any importance where the three are split. They were heard in an HTA meeting last year promising to vote as a block no matter what the issue. How can a person with an ounce of integrity vow to vote as a block and not with their conscience? This is why our district is in this mess. Kirk runs the show and the other two are spineless whimps who would jump off a tall building if Kirk gave the order.

I am sorry for saying the conflict was over Oak hills high school. I should have known it was Mission Crest. The key here though is that the old board thought nothing of this to them this was business as usual. It took the new board to straighten this out and when they did , surprize surprize the vote to reject was 5 to 0. I keep reading that every vote is 3 to 2 another untruth. Many votes are 5 to 0. This leads me to the next question, if no bidds have been accepted for Oak hills high school, how could the boards awarding of a contract to WLC cost the district an additional 7 million?

Lee Rogers spewed on and on about how she has been in construction since Rome was built, but then turned around later to make claims they didn't understand.

I'm an IT consultant and haven't had a raise in years. Also, I welcome any teacher in the district to pay the 150 a week I pay for medical. Any takers? I believe teachers should be paid, but I'm tired of hearing union hacks complain about the cost of benefits. If you don't like it you can always get them yourself.

Kirk bashed the RFP, and Lee Rogers was the expert that worked on it, didn't she? Kirk and Black are now trashing Lee Rogers. I guess she'll be the sacrificial lamb. They tried to dump her before the election, and now they're making her hold the bag. Just goes to show you what the board members are like,

Keep watching. You'll see Lee's true colors. She's coated them with sugar to cover them though. Watch and wait, it usually doesn't take much for her to let lose.

why the hate - your comments show your lack of knowledge and you should keep your fingers to yourself. First Oak Hills High has yet to bid and furthermore public bids are sealed and know one is privy to those numbers until all bids are opened on bid day in the presence of all but why would you know that you along with Lee, Hardy and Kirk should sit in the back of the room at the next board meeting with your dunce hats on - to the man with the sign thank you for allowing Lee to show her true colors

So Jim. If the board never approved a contract with Margaret Sepp, then why was she asking the board to reimburse her for insurance she took out since they told her she had the job. I noticed that on the last board agenda. Seems odd to me that she would buy insurance if the board didn't approve her getting the job.

My wife and I both work for the district. She is classified and I am a teacher. We BOTH have been receiving cost of living raises and step increases. I'm not sure why the teachers are saying they don't get raises. Those of you that are not working in the school district. Do you get raises beyond a cost of living raise? Most that I know don't. Plus I know both my wife and I get an increase every year towards our medical which counts as a raise to me. Plus my friends are always telling us how good we have it with the medical benefits that we have. I sure can't complain.

To why the hate. There was NEVER a contract awarded to a district employee for Oak Hills High School. NEVER. Not even one that was later rescinded, like the WLC and Sepp approval.

Regarding the building of schools, they built them. How did Cedar Middle get on the map? No, obviously I am not for 55 students in a classroom, any more than I am for spending almost a million dollars on a superintendent and "a" teacher buy out. Yes, citizens why don't you ask the board about the quiet suspicious purging of a certain teacher's personnel record? Hmm. I know it's a personnel issue, right? Then, they bought him out to the tune of how many thousands, a quarter of a million? Well, geez, Mr. Richardson cost almost a half million, another quarter was just a drop in the bucket right? Furthermore the forward vote of 3 to 2 in favor of WLC Construction was later reversed because boards like to revisit things? Sounds fishy to me. How about you Hesperians?

I am truly amazed that you believe that a teacher that has worked more than 20 years does not deserve even a step increase. You are wrong about the step increases I have copy of Mr. Bray's contract and it has step increases for every year he is on the job in addition to the pay raises that he recieved. I noticed you had no answer to no schools I guess you are ok with 55 in a classroom.
