Letter to the Editor - April 25, 2008

Written comments presented to the HUSD school board on April 21, 2008

Apple Valley

Two months ago, Tristan Pelayas encouraged people to file a report with him if they had experienced acts of intimidation that might be considered threatening in nature. Based on the following events, I wish to file a report against Robert Kirk, Hardy Black, and Lee Rogers:

In September of 2007, I held a protest sign at Sultana High School. Lee Rogers called me down to the front of the auditorium in an attempt to embarrass and intimidate me. She then took my sign, and I had to ask for it back.

Soon after the HTA hosted a "Truth about the Recall" meeting. A question was asked about the status of the recall. Hardy Black then states, "Charles Roedell is in the audience. Why don't you ask him?"

On February 22, 2008, Mark McKinney, on behalf of Kirk, Black, and Rogers, met with me in my classroom. I am asked to refrain from holding signs because he believes they are offensive and disruptive. He proceeds to show me the ed. code document, highlighted in yellow, which states I could be found guilty of a misdemeanor and fined five-hundred dollars if I persisted.

On February 25, 2008 I received a memo from Mark McKinney that states there will now be a designated area for people to carry protest signs. That evening, Mark McKinney declares publicly that my signs are disruptive and offensive. It is my belief that Kirk, Black, and Rogers used Mark McKinney to do their bidding in an attempt o publicly humiliate me and harass me.

On April 7, 2008 I held a sign peacefully in their designated protest box with my back against the wall. Mr. Kirk claimed that I was disruptive because I was "waving" my sign. Once again, I am threatened with a misdemeanor and a five-hundred dollar fine if I did not remove my signs. My signs were eventually confiscated.

Let me make it perfectly clear that my complaint is not against Mark McKinney. In fact, if I could I would sign his name to this complaint due to the pressure he has experienced over the last few months by the three board members.

And if I could I would write the name of Hank Richardson on this document because he was fired from his job and had to pack his bags and leave town under the cover of darkness.

And if I could I would include the names of people who were kicked off the Calendar Committee by Mr. Kirk.

And if I could I would record the names of all the administrators in the district who have been told in a management meeting not to show any reactions during the board meetings because Mr. Kirk, Mr. Black, and Mrs. Rodgers might be watching and taking notes.

And finally ladies and gentlemen, if I could I would sign the names of every district office personnel who cringe in fear and trepidation, who cringe with anxiety and disgust every time Mr. Kirk, Mr. Black, and Mrs. Rogers walk through the doors of H.U.S.D.

But, alas, I cannot. So I hereby submit my formal complaint against Robert Kirk, Hardy Black, and Lee Rogers.

Copies are to be given to Cathy Gomez, Bruce Minton, Helen Rogers, Jovi Yankaskas, George Landon, and Mark McKinney.

Robert Kirk, Hardy Black and Lee Rogers can receive copies from their personal lawyer Tristan Peleyas.

If for any reason, there is a conflict of interest, and you cannot investigate these matters, please forward my complaint to an attorney who can.

At this time, I wish to make my position public and on the record.

Charles, you are so right. I'm glad there is one person in the district that is not intimidated by those three. It's so fun to see someone dishing out a little bit of what they dish out to everyone else. You are one of the only good things at the board meetings ever since these three simpletons got elected!

Just a thought, Why don't you here that continue to argue over the HUSD BS go over to the opinion letter dated April 30 and read the words from a young lady who is serving in Iraq.

In answer to your inquiry, the union will do and has done nothing helpful for Hesperia. Now the Kirks are running for Central Committee / see your ballot/ which gives them more potential for mischief, and Mark Kirk, the evil behind the throne, is running for his own seat, on Hesperia City Council. Let's see if Hesperia will begin to turn this around to our town again.

Is Geez not going to explain what the Union has done for me, a non-union member, non-teacher?

Mr. Roedell, I love your t-shirt idea. It's much better than the signs. Where can we get one? Thanks for having the guts to do what every employee of the district wishes they had the guts to do.

Charles, you have kept Ella Lee, Bob, and Hardy busy blogging this week. They are terrified of you. It seems they love to intimidate, but can't take it when it's aimed at them. You are a hero in this district. Keep up the great work. Three more years of these incompetents.

Geez, I am not a teacher and not a member of the union. I am a parent and voter, so please explain to me what benefits the union leadership has negotiated for me. Character goes both ways also. If your going to claim the three are of good character, then others have every right to question their character.

According to the Daily Press, Mark Kirk just announced his bid for City Council in Hesperia.

As a teacher, parent, and voter of in Hesperia, I completely agree with Charles. I completely support and admire Mark McKinney. I also agree that unless you are attending the meetings and have first hand information to ALL the happenings, you are probably makeing uninformed statements. It is a shame that many people discount Charles' statements and claim they are because of the recall. His opinions could actually be valid and have nothing to do with the failure of the recall, think about it. In my opinion, and I beleive we are all still entitled to one, just because the recall failed doesn't mean it shouldn't have happened. As a parent I hope the community, employees, and board members can move past all this and soon, for now, we have bigger fish to fry regarding our classrooms next year. What is everyone going to do about this mess next year?

It is ironic that when Charles is criticized the issue of his being a teacher of the year is brought out. Yet when mention is made that Dr. Kirk was teacher of the year on three separate occasions including district teacher of the year these people discount that as of no consequence. Hypocrits!

The pro Charles comments are so pro recall junk. This crowd just can't get over themselves. They hate the union leadership but love the benefits that these leaders negotiate for them. They hate three good people and deal with character slurs rather than real issues. They just don't get it!

Kirk has taught in hesperia for nearly 20 yrs, he hardly moved to hesperia to push an agenda. Roedell has yet to move to hesperia to push his agenda.

I totally agree that the union, not the teachers' rank and file is the problem. We in Hesperia need to let these Union people know we don't appreciate them coming into our community and pushing their agenda. This is our town, and although 2 of the new board members are residents, Kirk just moved here to push his agenda and that of his union.

It is hard to believe that people are blaming Mr. Roedell for the problems. It must be the HTA union at work again. I think the teachers are great, it is the leadership of the union that is really to blame. They support 3 candidates who promise they will vote as a block. At least they kept that promise. Look at the minutes of the Board Meetings and you will find that to be true. Mr. Roedell spoke nothing but the truth. I was there. I know what he said was true. I wish more people would attend board meetings and see what is really going on. Charles Roedell's rights as an American citizen are being violated. What will the three do next? It is unbelievable that readers can't really see what's going on.

Is Mr Kirk really that weak of a man that he can't handle the waiving of a sign in the back of a room.

Can someone provide the Ed Code that is used in the story. I would like to see with my own eyes that a citizen of this country cannot protest at a public meeting. I believe Mr Roedell has a valid complaint. What was McKinney doeing at Mr Roedells place of employment, because when protesting Mr Roedell is not legally a teacher and thus Mr McKinney does not have any authority over him. I would be interested to see what a fair third party lawyer would have to say about this.

Teacher of what year? Not in recent times I bet. He's lost it!

Everything you wrote is correct. Go Mr. Roedell. They can not take away your First Amendment Rights, it is against the law. Poor Mr. Mc Kinney, his job of Superintendent is going to scar him for life, wait and see. How much pressure can he endure from Kirk, Black, and Rogers?

Your Correct Mr. Roedell - Apr 27, 2008 10:07:33 PM Remove Comment

Very interesting that the same person posts the same crud over and over. Obviously they are trying to refute what Mr. Roedell is brave enough to point out, that he is right to protest. His children go to this district, he's a parent, and if Bentley can spew his spun garbage, then we need the voice of what's really happening, which is what teacher of the year Charles Roedell is doing. Those who speak against him are just part of the Union and pandering group. Can't convince me otherwise, I've seen them.
