Re: "Looking for new friends" (Hesperia Star, A1, July 31)
The Hesperia Animal Shelter is run by the city which limits how many pets a homeowner may have according to the lot size. During this economic calamity, lot size has not been a deterring factor in the number of animals that have been abandoned because owners have had to choose between feeding their children or their pets.
It seems the right and left hands are not working together. If the city would relax its regulations regarding the number of animals per acre, then perhaps pet lovers who could afford to feed additional mouths would adopt more animals from the shelter thus creating a win-win situation for both the pets and the city.
