Rampage wins Commissioner's Cup

STAR EDITOR

The Rampage of the Hesperia Youth Soccer League avenged an earlier loss to win its U12 division at the prestigious Commissioner’s Cup on Dec. 19-20 at the Ronald Reagan Sports Park in Temecula.

The event is where the first- and second-place teams in their divisions from all area cities compete against each other. The Rampage were one of two HYSL U12 teams to end up in first place.

Competing with only 11 players — meaning no substitutes — the Rampage clawed its way to Sunday’s finals. First it went against Yucaipa, a game that ended with a 1-1 tie. Later on Saturday afternoon with only 10 players, the Rampage took on Flame On from the Apple Valley of the High Desert Youth Soccer League, winning in 3-0.

The next morning, with 12 players able to play, the Rampage team beat Murrieta 3-1. The win gave the Rampage an opportunity to play for the championship against the Colton Sharks, which defeated them during the Turkey Shoot Tournament in Apple Valley on Thanksgiving weekend.

The Rampage were the first to score a goal and came in first with with a final score of 4-1.

The Rampage team:

Coach: Tony Gonzalez

Assistant Coaches: Efraim Rangel

Players: Alejandro Melendez, Alejandro Topete, Anthony Lopez-Gomez, Daniel Alvarado, Dominick Gonzaelz, Eric Carter, Felix Rangel, Jazen Tully, Joseph Arrey, Samuel Rojas, Santos Chavez, Wesley Bird.
