Hesperia's football season comes to end

Star Editor

The Hesperia High football team’s best-ever season came to an end last Friday night when the Scorpions were beat 21-14 by M.L. King in the second round of the C.I.F. Southern Section Eastern Division competition.

The Wolves (7-5) took advantage of several first-half Hesperia (9-2) errors including five turnovers. Three Ian Harriman passes were intercepted, and two fumbles by running back Gavin Santos were recovered.

The Wolves scored all of their points in the first half while the Scorpions scored in the first and third quarters.

Hesperia receiver Joseph Peters recovered a Santos fumble in the end zone for the first touchdown. Tailback Rigoberto Yell sprinted for a 61-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

In the second half, Hesperia dominated M.L. King, which could gain only three first downs. But despite Santos’ 178-yard game rushing on 27 carries, Hesperia couldn’t get enough points to win.
